Neurosciences & Stroke Care
Image guided surgery (IGS) is one of several types of
neuro-surgeries performed at St. Mary's. IGS assists surgeons in performing less
invasive surgeries through smaller incisions. Because image guidance
promotes less invasive surgery, patients in turn benefit through a smaller
incision and a shorter, safer surgery.
Common surgeries performed are:
- Minimally invasive brain surgery: this procedure uses
state-of-the-art navigational systems to remove brain tumors.
- Spine surgery: procedures utilize minimally invasive
techniques to remove discs or to stabilize the spine by fusing the back.
- Ventricular shunting: a procedure performed to drain
excessive fluid.
- Carpal tunnel repair
